Speaking of Idols
When we speak of idols, we speak of a variety of things. We could mean the political and societal idols that we occasionally cast in bronze and set on plinths. Or we could mean individual idols, pop stars, football heroes, or film stars whom we admire. In addition, there are religious idols; usually figurative sculptures that represent a god and are worshipped as such. This variety already indicates that we should proceed with a dose of caution when speaking of, and engaging with, idols.
